An Entrepreneurial Journey
Tom Beaty founded Insight Sourcing Group (ISG) in his basement in 2002, growing it into North America’s largest procurement-focused consulting firm, serving corporate giants like AT&T, Under Armour, and Walmart. ISG was the market leader for procurement services in the private equity sector, partnering with firms like Apollo Global Management, Warburg Pincus, and Bain Capital to drive EBITDA improvements and enterprise value creation through cost-reduction initiatives for portfolio companies.
Leveraging ISG’s cash flow and expertise, Beaty and his team launched three additional procurement-related businesses using a hub-and-spoke strategy focused on creating new businesses with recurring revenue and higher valuation profiles.
The success of these four businesses resulted in tremendous enterprise value creation as measured by three exits and one recapitalization. All exits were at premium multiples and in some cases, record setting valuations due to differentiated strategies that created unique assets.
In 2023, the three remaining ventures collectively generated over $100 million in annual revenue and employed 350+ people. Two were sold to Accenture in 2024. Prior to the transactions, all the businesses were bootstrapped with no debt or outside capital.
